This Project Grant from the National Science Foundation Division of Earth Sciences provides $154,836 to establish a Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin from June 1, 2023 to May 31, 2026. The REU site will expose undergraduate students, especially those from minority and underrepresented backgrounds, to hands-on research training in science, technology, engineering and mathematics disciplines through one-on-one mentoring. Students will conduct projects related to energy management, security and environmental protection in state-of-the-art laboratories. They will also present their findings at conferences. This funding supports the Geosciences program's goal of expanding fundamental knowledge of the integrated Earth system through basic research. The University of Texas System serves as the parent organization for the University of Texas of the Permian Basin, which will directly oversee the REU program supported by this NSF grant.
