The Colorado School of Mines will host a three-year Research Experiences for Undergraduates Site grant funded by the National Science Foundation Division of Materials Research. The $439,574 project grant will support an undergraduate research program integrating computation and experimentation to develop transformative energy materials.
Through the Mathematical and Physical Sciences program (CFDA 47.049), students will gain hands-on research experience generating, curating, and analyzing large materials science datasets across diverse projects in areas like carbon capture, thermoelectrics, and semiconductor films. Training involves formal instruction, collaboration with national laboratories and industry partners, and presenting research results at conferences. The program aims to provide research opportunities to students from community colleges and primarily undergraduate institutions to train the next generation of scientists at the intersection of materials science and data analytics.
