The University of Central Florida Board of Trustees (UCF) will receive $405,000 from the National Science Foundation (NSF) under the Engineering (CFDA 47.041) federal grant program to operate the Research Experience for Undergraduates Site: Advanced Technologies for Hypersonic, Propulsive, Energetic and Reusable Platforms (HYPER) project from April 1, 2023 through March 31, 2026. Through this project, UCF will engage approximately 30 undergraduate students over three years in cutting-edge research related to challenges in next-generation modes of transportation and energy generation. Students will be matched to individual research projects and gain hands-on training in contemporary challenges such as advanced manufacturing techniques, propulsion methods for hypersonic flight, novel internal cooling and heat transfer methods, and flutter mitigation. The goal is to prepare students for PhD-level research careers in engineering and science fields applicable to hypersonics, space, propulsion, and energy.
