This Project Grant from the National Science Foundation's Mathematical and Physical Sciences program provides $259,200 to the University of Michigan-Dearborn to support the Research Experience for Undergraduates Site in Mathematical Analysis and Applications. Over three years from May 2023 to April 2026, the program will host eight undergraduate students per summer for an eight-week research experience. Students will collaborate with five faculty members on projects in complex analysis, real analysis, harmonic analysis, stochastic analysis, probability theory, algebraic geometry, and inverse problems. Participants will gain experience with mathematical research methods and presentation skills. They will also learn about graduate study and career options. The program aims to recruit from underrepresented groups and first-generation college students to broaden participation in mathematics. It seeks to develop the next generation of U.S. mathematicians and connect students to mentors and professional networks.
