This National Science Foundation project grant of $601,615 will fund a contextual analysis of peer experiences during early adolescence under the agency's Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences program (CFDA 47.075). The Research Foundation For The State University of New York will conduct online data collection via surveys and daily diaries from 300 socioeconomically and ethnically diverse young adolescents at three time points spanning one school year and summer. The project aims to evaluate how location both online and in-person and time (summer months vs. school year) impact adolescents' friendship and bullying experiences and psychological health outcomes. It also examines effects of gender, socioeconomic status, and ethnicity on peer experiences. Findings seek to validate developmental theories and facilitate new understanding of the where, when, and what of friendship and bullying across contexts. A sub-award of an undisclosed amount was issued to Children's Hospital Medical Center to support the project's goals.
