The National Science Foundation awarded a $298,185 Project Grant to the University of Washington under the Mathematical and Physical Sciences program (CFDA 47.049) to establish a Diamond Quantum Control Testbed. The Testbed will provide researchers access to a multi-qubit quantum processor based on a single nitrogen-vacancy center in diamond. Low temperature and resonant laser control of the quantum bits will enable single shot readout of the quantum register. As part of the Quantum Technologies Teaching and Testbeds user facility, the Testbed will be accessible to external researchers and integrated into university education programs to advance areas such as quantum noise spectroscopy, decoherence control sequences, open quantum systems, and machine learning for quantum systems. The September 2022 award will support operation of the Testbed through August 2023 to generate interest and solutions in the field of quantum control, analogous to how early quantum computers stimulated quantum computing innovation.
