This two-year, $999,970 project grant from the National Science Foundation Office of Advanced Cyberinfrastructure will support the University of Southern California's Center for Advanced Research Computing in building cyberinfrastructure and expanding high-performance computing access and services to under-resourced universities in Southern California. Specifically, the University of Southern California will implement a new high-performance computing system and corresponding user support services to further the existing collaboration between the University and the Los Nettos Consortium, comprised of six member universities and thirty associate networks. This new system offers an advanced computing environment similar to national high-performance computing centers, with high-capacity computing, high-speed networking, and abundant research applications and tools. It also leverages existing cyberinfrastructure at the University such as central file systems, high-performance computing cluster interconnection, and federated authentication. This significantly increases accessibility of advanced cyberinfrastructure for students and researchers at regional institutions while catalyzing multi-institutional research collaborations, thereby forming a computational research and education hub in Southern California known as the Southern California Research Computing Alliance. The project falls under the National Science Foundation's Computer and Information Science and Engineering program.
