Arizona State University will receive $1,199,998 from the National Science Foundation Office of Advanced Cyberinfrastructure under the Computer and Information Science and Engineering federal grant program (CFDA 47.070) for a project grant awarded January 1, 2023 through December 31, 2025.
The funding will support research to improve the robustness of cyberinfrastructure for scientific software via scalable vulnerability discovery and mitigation techniques for large binary files. Specifically, the project will create a comprehensive corpus of scientific software, find and remedy vulnerabilities within, and integrate and enhance binary analysis methods to address scalability limitations and enable automated analysis of the research software corpus. The resulting scientific software-focused cyber reasoning system is intended to provide economical means to identify and upgrade legacy, insecure scientific software while also advancing next-generation binary analysis technologies.
