This $2.5 million project grant from the National Science Foundation's Computer and Information Science and Engineering program will support the creation of a Cross-Institutional Research Engagement Network for Cyberinfrastructure Facilitators (CIREN) through 2027. Arizona State University and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville will recruit, train, and engage cyberinfrastructure facilitators in multi-disciplinary, cross-institutional research projects through CIREN.
The network aims to fill a critical gap in developing cyberinfrastructure facilitators and expanding their ability to engage in transformational research using high-performance computing, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. CIREN establishes a framework for diverse facilitator recruitment, entry-level training, peer mentoring, and knowledge exchange through community events. Network websites and an open repository will increase facilitator visibility, recognition, and connections to researchers. Through collaboration, governance, and assessment models, CIREN seeks to develop a reproducible cyberinfrastructure facilitation model to support scientific and research goals at other institutions.
