The Sault Sainte Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians was awarded a $604,939 Project Grant from the United States Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Service. The grant will support the Tribe's operation of the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR) from October 1, 2021 through September 30, 2023.
As the name suggests, the FDPIR provides food assistance and nutrition services to members of federally recognized Tribes living on or near Indian reservations. Specifically, through this grant the Sault Sainte Marie Tribe will distribute USDA food commodities and operate nutrition education programs for Tribal citizens residing within or near the Sault Sainte Marie reservation in Michigan. The Tribe will perform these services under the name Northern Hospitability.
