The University of Texas at Arlington received a three-year, $599,953 Project Grant from the National Science Foundation's Computer and Information Science and Engineering program to develop a distributed, scalable end-to-end tail latency service level objective guaranteed resource management framework for microservices. The framework, called DETAGEM, aims to establish a theoretical foundation and comprehensive solution for resource allocation that guarantees per-query tail latency SLOs in microservice architectures. It will map SLOs for directed acyclic graph workflows to task queuing budgets at individual microservices based on unloaded response time statistics. DETAGEM will also develop queuing budget-aware and resource auto-scaling schemes to ensure microservices meet their queuing budgets and thus the end-to-end query SLOs are satisfied. The grant's outcomes are expected to advance the state-of-the-art in methodologies, theories, and practical solutions for the microservice architecture domain.
