This National Science Foundation Project Grant of $482,979 supported research at the University of Texas at Austin from January 2023 to December 2025 under the Biological Sciences federal grant program (CFDA 47.074). The award funded a collaborative research project to study the brown-capped rosy-finch and Sierra Nevada gray-crowned rosy-finch. The research aims to establish a pre-climate change baseline for the species using museum specimens and examine current coping strategies across their high-elevation ranges using field surveys. It will integrate these findings with climate change projections to forecast future responses through a statistical model incorporating movement, evolutionary, and behavioral changes. The project will deliver tailored reports and data to partner agencies in Western U.S. states and provide summer research internships to four undergraduate students each year through University of Texas at Austin programs serving underrepresented students in STEM.
