This $299,687 Project Grant from the National Science Foundation's Computer and Information Science and Engineering program (CFDA 47.070) will support the development of scalable and extensible I/O runtime and tools for next generation adaptive data layouts at Utah State University from July 2022 through June 2025. Specifically, the university will create a parallel I/O runtime to support progressive read/write operations using hierarchical, compressed, and tunable adaptive data layouts suitable for large-scale scientific simulations. Interfaces will be developed to support these data layouts for in situ analysis workflows. Additionally, the university will build a novel GPU-powered visualization system and performance tools to enable data-driven I/O optimization and interactive exploration of large datasets through a web browser. Outcomes will include improved data management solutions for simulation and analysis pipelines on leadership and mid-scale computing platforms.
