This Project Grant from the National Science Foundation Division of Chemistry, under the Mathematical and Physical Sciences program (CFDA 47.049), provides $213,504 to develop new tools for nanoscale chemical and biochemical sensing and imaging. Professor Lane Baker at Texas A&M University will construct new instruments using advanced signal processing and selective chemical and biological sensors to measure very small concentrations of ions, molecules, and proteins at subcellular scales. This work aims to gain new nanoscale insights into nerve communication and wound healing through chemically selective imaging. Students will be trained in state-of-the-art fabrication, measurement, and characterization techniques. Broader impacts include developing new analytical chemistry education approaches and engaging students in community science outreach through the Student Electrochemical Society chapter. The period of performance is from March 15, 2022 through August 31, 2023.
