The National Science Foundation awarded the University of Houston a $500,000 Project Grant under the STEM Education program (CFDA 47.076) to provide research experiences for pre-service secondary STEM teachers. Through summer 2023-2025, the project will engage 30 prospective teachers in interdisciplinary research focused on industries of the future such as artificial intelligence, quantum information science, and biotechnology. Participants will conduct research at partnering Houston-area school districts and local industries, then develop innovative classroom modules translating their research findings. The modules aim to stimulate STEM interest while meeting Texas standards. Academic follow-up includes discussion and feedback from field teaching experiences. Results will disseminate to other prospective teachers through workshops and publications. The grant aims to influence high school student pathways, especially in underserved districts.
