The University of Northern Iowa received a $898,819 three-year Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation Division of Computer and Network Systems under the Computer and Information Science and Engineering federal grant program (CFDA 47.070).
The grant will support increasing access to computer science teacher preparation across Iowa through partnerships between the University and the state's nine Area Education Agencies. Over the grant period, approximately 18 AEA personnel and 150 classroom teachers will participate in coursework and professional development to earn Iowa's computer science endorsement. Participants will learn effective teaching practices and culturally responsive computing. Partner districts will also receive training on broadening participation in computer science. By the end of the project, six AEAs will have hosted cadres of newly endorsed computer science teachers prepared to offer high-quality introductory programming or computer science principles courses statewide.
