This Project Grant from the National Science Foundation's STEM Education program (CFDA 47.076) provides $999,980 to the University of Tennessee from October 2022 through September 2025 to develop a computer science and literacy curriculum for rural East Tennessee schools. The university will partner with local teachers to design project- and storytelling-based lessons integrating CS and literacy. Teachers will receive professional development on the curriculum and form a support network. Researchers will evaluate the curriculum's impact on student learning and engagement, as well as teacher identity and collaboration in CS education. Findings aim to demonstrate how rural districts can meaningfully engage elementary students with CS. The project leverages an existing research-practice partnership to expand access to CS learning opportunities in the region.
