This National Science Foundation project grant of $386,467 will fund research at The Ohio State University from September 2022 through August 2025 under the Polar Programs federal grant program (CFDA 47.078).
The university will apply commercial satellite imagery and elevation data from the NSF-supported Polar Geospatial Center archive to measure surface features, flow and strain rates, and surface elevation change at critical Antarctic ice shelves. The comprehensive analysis of over a decade of high-resolution data will improve understanding of ice shelf dynamics and stability. Graduate students will receive training, and outreach activities are planned to engage diverse audiences in Antarctic science. Results will guide the Polar Geospatial Center's future data collection strategies and applications of commercial satellite imagery in glaciology.
