This Project Grant from the National Science Foundation's Integrative Activities program, CFDA 47.083, provides $539,000 to develop a Rydberg tweezer quantum processor with real-time optical cavity readout at the University of California, Berkeley from September 1, 2022 to August 31, 2023. The award will enable measurements of a portion of a complex quantum system while the remainder continues to evolve coherently. This will be realized using arrays of optically trapped single atoms with internal state evolution controlled by optical pulses. High-fidelity measurements will be performed optically using resonators at short times without disturbing other atoms. Measurement outcomes can then modify optical control pulses to effect feedback on the quantum system. Laser and experimental control systems will also be developed to enable such operation. The instrument will operate as a shared user facility within the NSF Quantum Leap Challenge Institute for Quantum Computation, allowing experimental investigations of quantum teleportation, error correction, cluster state generation, interactive dynamics, and state preparation.
