Murray State University was awarded a $223,633 Project Grant from the National Science Foundation's Integrative Activities program (CFDA 47.083) to acquire a gel permeation chromatography system with dynamic light scattering capabilities. The instrumentation will support research by Professors Kevin Miller, Gary Stinchcomb, Bikram Subedi, Christopher Lennon, and Grace Eder across chemistry, biological sciences, and earth and environmental sciences. Specifically, the system will be used to analyze molecular weight distributions of polymers, separate and analyze drug residues and small molecules from biological and environmental samples, and assist in characterizing copolymers for organic photovoltaics. The award also aims to enhance education by integrating hands-on use of the instrumentation into various courses and making it accessible to nearby institutions. Research focuses on areas such as polymer chemistry, molecular biology, and environmental science.
