The National Science Foundation awarded Dr. Theo McKenzie a $100,000 Mathematical and Physical Sciences Ascending Postdoctoral Research Fellowship under the Mathematical and Physical Sciences program (CFDA 47.049) for the period of July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023. The fellowship will support Dr. McKenzie's research project titled "Eigenvector Statistics of the Adjacency Operator of Graphs" at Harvard University under the mentorship of Dr. Hong-Tzer Yau. The project aims to study the structure of eigenvectors of operators on graphs through three research directions: deducing eigenvector and eigenvalue statistics of random and semi-random graphs using combinatorial graph structure; bounding the number of eigenvalues near the spectrum edge for graph and manifold operators; and generalizing known results in quantum ergodicity to graph families. In addition, Dr. McKenzie will leverage his experience teaching mathematics in prison college programs to introduce an advanced curriculum at Massachusetts prisons and create a community for underrepresented researchers at Harvard.
