The University of Texas at Dallas received a $240,353 Project Grant from the National Science Foundation's Engineering program (CFDA 47.041) for research on creep-based nanomanufacturing of crystalline metals and alloys. The two-year project, running from January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2025, will advance molding-based scalable nanomanufacturing techniques through fundamental research on high-temperature plastic deformation of crystalline metals. The university will investigate creep-induced plastic deformation mechanisms to enable controllable molding of metal nanostructures at different length scales. Outcomes include fabrication of high-aspect-ratio nanostructures and porous metal nanostructures for applications in energy conversion and storage as well as biomedicine. The research is expected to benefit the economy by advancing technologies in energy, healthcare, and other industrial sectors.
