The West Virginia Division of Forestry received a $108,422 Project Grant award from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service to administer the West Virginia Forest Legacy Program. The grant was awarded on September 6, 2022 with a completion date of August 15, 2027.
Under the Forest Legacy Program (CFDA 10.676), the Division of Forestry will effectively identify and protect environmentally important forest areas in West Virginia threatened by conversion to nonforest uses. They will do this through the use of conservation easements or fee simple land purchases to conserve these areas, consistent with the purpose of the Forest Legacy Program to protect working forests threatened by conversion or fragmentation.
