Colorado State University was awarded a three-year, $234,907 Project Grant from the National Science Foundation's Mathematical and Physical Sciences program (CFDA 47.049) to develop efficient and robust computational tools for subdiffusive transport in poroelastic media. Under this award, CSU will design, analyze, implement, and apply a family of novel numerical methods to simulate multi-scale, multi-physics processes involving solid displacement, fluid pressure, and substance concentration in porous media. These methods include new finite element approaches to model subdiffusive transport in poroelastic structures. CSU will also investigate conditions for stable coupling of related solvers. The university will apply the computational toolboxes to simulations of drug delivery, tissue engineering, reservoir engineering, and other applications. All solvers and code modules will be openly accessible to the scientific computing community via implementation in C++ and MATLAB.
