This National Science Foundation Project Grant award of $1,231,216 provides funding for Borough of Manhattan Community College to establish a pipeline program for students from historically underrepresented groups to gain technical skills in advanced mobile programming with an emphasis on cybersecurity and secure programming. The goal is to address workforce needs in the high-demand field of secure mobile application development in New York City and beyond.
Specifically, the grant will support improving faculty development and student learning in secure mobile programming at a high school and community college in NYC. It will also help students gain technical programming skills as well as competencies in critical thinking, collaboration, and design through building industry partnerships. These partnerships will provide professional internship opportunities for students in the secure mobile computing industry in NYC, thereby facilitating their entry into high-quality jobs upon completion of the program. The Research Foundation of the City University of New York will receive the funding on behalf of Borough of Manhattan Community College under this National Science Foundation STEM Education grant awarded on July 1, 2022 for a three-year period ending June 30, 2025.
