KANSAS NEUROLOGICAL INSTITUTE (KNI), SPONSOR OF THE FOSTER GRANDPARENT PROGRAM OF NORTHEAST KANSAS, IS A STATE SUPPORTED RESIDENTIAL AND RESOURCE CENTER SERVING PERSONS WITH INTELLECTUAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES. KNI OPERATES ON A PERSON-CENTERED PHILOSOPHY. THE MISSION IS TO SUPPORT EACH PERSON TO HAVE A MEANINGFUL LIFE. KNI IS REQUESTING $450,450 TO SUPPORT 67 VOLUNTEER SERVICE YEARS, AND THIS INVESTMENT IS TO BE SUPPLEMENTED BY AT LEAST $113,075 OF NON-FEDERAL RESOURCES. IN THE TWELVE-COUNTY SERVICE AREA, THE NATIONAL PERFORMANCE MEASURES OF SCHOOL READINESS (ED1A) WILL BE ADDRESSED AT HEAD STARTS AND PRESCHOOLS. AT THE END OF THE THREE-YEAR GRANT PERIOD, 90% OF STUDENTS SERVED BY FOSTER GRANDPARENTS WILL MEET THE OUTCOME OF ED27C, HAVING INCREASED THEIR SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT TO MOVE ON THE NEXT LEVEL. FOR EXAMPLE, FOR FIVE-YEAR-OLDS, THAT WOULD BE TO ENTER KINDERGARTEN. FOR THOSE IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS, THE K-12 SUCCESS OUTPUT OF ED1A WILL DEMONSTRATE THAT 70% OF THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS SERVED BY FOSTER GRANDPARENTS WILL HAVE AN OUTCOME (ED27C) THAT WILL SHOW IMPROVED ACADEMIC ENGAGEMENT OR SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL SKILLS AS REPORTED ON ANNUAL EVALUATIONS BY SCHOOL OFFICIALS. A WAIVER WAS GRANTED TO ALLOW FOSTER GRANDPARENTS TO CONTINUE TO SERVE PERSONS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL AND INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES WHO LIVE AT KNI AND HAVE HAD THE BENEFIT OF FOSTER GRANDPARENT RELATIONSHIPS FOR 54 YEARS. PROGRAM OUTPUTS INCLUDE H4A. THIS PROGRAM WILL CONTINUE TO PROMOTE INTEGRATION AND INCLUSION OF PERSONS WITH INTELLECTUAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES (H15A).
