Community Farmers Markets Inc. received a $922,145.80 three-year Project Grant award from the United States Department of Agriculture Agricultural Marketing Service under the Farmers Market and Local Food Promotion Program. Through this funding, Community Farmers Markets will deliver a holistic, four-pronged approach to growing local food systems and removing barriers to food access in the Atlanta, Georgia area. Specifically, the organization will expand local food distribution through farmers markets, public transit markets, a crop cycle program, general stores, and pop-ups. It will increase consumer awareness, attendance, purchasing, and knowledge via marketing, education, and outreach. The funding will also address affordability for vendors and consumers through direct financial supports and incentive programs. Finally, Community Farmers Markets will develop the local food ecosystem through vendor support, market management assistance, and consulting services. The goal is to serve hundreds of farmers and ranchers and thousands of customers in the metro Atlanta region.
