Stockton University received a $498,119 Project Grant award from the US Department of Agriculture Agricultural Marketing Service under the Acer Access Development Program to develop a sustainable sugaring industry in southern New Jersey through 2024. The University will establish a network of community-oriented boiling hubs to process sap from hub-owned and community lands. Hub owners will invest in equipment with grant funds and provide open houses/workshops in exchange. Stockton will also conduct research on sugaring best practices and deliver multi-faceted education to existing tappers, consumers, schools and families. The overall goal is to create a sustainable regional sugaring industry through community engagement and innovation.
