The National Science Foundation Division of Atmospheric and Geospace Sciences awarded a $199,628 Project Grant to Texas A&M University to develop a robust light-scattering computational capability based on the method of separation of variables in spheroidal coordinates for small-to-large spheroids. The award period runs from December 1, 2021 through November 30, 2023.
The work will be conducted under the NSF's Geosciences program (CFDA #47.050), which supports basic research in the atmospheric, earth, and ocean sciences to strengthen the national scientific enterprise's understanding of the integrated Earth system. Specifically, the funding will allow Texas A&M researchers to expand fundamental knowledge of light scattering by developing computational methods applicable to spheroids across a range of sizes, advancing modeling of atmospheric and geophysical phenomena influenced by particle shape.
