The National Science Foundation awarded a $597,142 Project Grant to The Research Foundation For The State University Of New York under the Geosciences federal grant program (CFDA 47.050) to support collaborative research titled "Volcanism on the Edge - Basaltic Volcanism from Source to Surface across the Colorado Plateau/Basin & Range Transition in SW Utah." The three-year award beginning August 1, 2022 will fund research examining nearly forty Quaternary basaltic volcanic fields located in the American Southwest, including many volcanoes that have erupted within the past 50,000 years. As part of the Geosciences program's goal to expand understanding of the integrated Earth system through basic research, this Project Grant will provide new insights into monogenetic volcanism across the Colorado Plateau and Basin and Range geologic provinces through analysis of volcanic source processes and eruptive behavior.
