The National Science Foundation awarded a $266,011 Project Grant to the University of Maryland, College Park through the Engineering program (CFDA 47.041) to support research titled "EAGER: TIME-RESOLVED MEASUREMENTS AND CONTROL OF VORTEX BREAKDOWN VIA HEAT ADDITION." The two-year award beginning December 15, 2021 will fund research at the University of Maryland to conduct time-resolved measurements and develop control methods for vortex breakdown using heat addition. The Engineering program aims to foster innovation and excellence in engineering research, and this award will support the University's efforts to advance fundamental understanding of vortex dynamics with potential applications in aerodynamics and combustion systems design. As the prime awardee, the University of Maryland will oversee research activities being conducted on its campus in College Park, Maryland under this NSF Project Grant.
