This three-year, $444,124 Project Grant from the National Science Foundation's Engineering Education and Centers Division supports an interdisciplinary research experience for undergraduate students at the University of California, Irvine related to sustainable energy pathways and decarbonization. The Research Experiences for Undergraduates site will expose 10 students per year, primarily from underrepresented groups, to comprehensive decarbonization research topics through experimental and modeling studies in engineering and physical sciences. Students will address fundamental questions across disciplines including sustainable hydrogen production, energy storage, efficient fuel cells, and advanced technologies for carbon dioxide reduction, combustion, and renewable hydrogen integration. In addition to hands-on research, students will participate in career development and team-building workshops to gain skills applicable to decarbonization challenges. This award aims to improve engineering research and education per the National Science Foundation's Engineering program (CFDA 47.041).
