This two-year Project Grant from the National Science Foundation Division of Astronomical Sciences provides $366,446 to fund the NRAO Research Experiences for Undergraduates program through February 2024. The program will offer research experiences annually to 15 qualified undergraduate applicants at NRAO sites in Socorro, NM; Green Bank, WV; and Charlottesville, VA. Students will conduct cutting-edge research in fields including astronomy, astrochemistry, pulsars, and astronomical engineering and computing. In addition to assigned research projects, all students will participate in hands-on observing experiences using NRAO's Green Bank Telescope, Very Large Array, and Very Long Baseline Array. The funding supports NSF's Mathematical and Physical Sciences program and its goal of increasing scientific knowledge and understanding major problems in these fields. It will also develop a pipeline of skilled scientists and engineers in radio astronomy critical to NSF-funded facilities.
