Old Dominion University Research Foundation was awarded a $320,219 Project Grant from the National Science Foundation Division of Ocean Sciences under the Geosciences federal grant program (CFDA 47.050) for the period of January 15, 2022 through December 31, 2024.
The grant will support the development of a new paleosalinity proxy based on sodium-calcium ratios in the planktonic foraminifera Trilobatus sacculifer and Globigerinoides ruber. This work will strengthen understanding of the integrated Earth system by expanding fundamental knowledge of atmospheric, earth, and ocean sciences through basic research, as outlined in the objectives of the NSF Geosciences program. The results of this research are expected to provide new insights into past ocean conditions.
