The University of California, Santa Barbara will assess peer mentorship as a scalable intervention to promote the academic success and retention of diverse undergraduate biology majors under a $292,236 Project Grant from the National Science Foundation's STEM Education program (CFDA 47.076). The three-year grant will support the development of a peer mentorship model and measure its impact on student outcomes such as academic performance, persistence in STEM majors, and sense of belonging through quantitative and qualitative data collection from June 2022-May 2025. As the NSF's STEM Education program aims to ensure the vitality of the nation's STEM education enterprise, this grant will add to the evidence base on effective practices to broaden participation in the biological sciences.
