Alabama A&M University was awarded a $1,381,015 Project Grant from the National Science Foundation's STEM Education program (CFDA 47.076) to support the DIVERSITY AND EXCELLENCE IN FOOD, ENVIRONMENT AND NATURAL-RESOURCE DISCIPLINES (DEFEND) project. The DEFEND project aims to provide leadership and ensure the vitality of the Nation's science, technology, engineering and mathematics education enterprise through initiatives that support the development of a diverse STEM workforce as outlined in the NSF's STEM Education program goals. Specifically, funding will support Alabama A&M University in Normal and Huntsville, Alabama in their efforts to recruit and retain students from underrepresented groups into food, environment and natural resources disciplines through academic support services and research experiences over the five year award period spanning December 2021 through November 2026.
