This National Science Foundation Project Grant award of $856,624 provides funding from January 2023 through December 2025 to support research entitled "Continental-Scale Determinants of Stream Solute Spatial and Temporal Patterns." The award is made under the Geosciences program (CFDA 47.050) to support basic research in the atmospheric, earth, and ocean sciences.
Specifically, the University of Florida will leverage a continental-scale dataset across the eastern United States to develop statistical models predicting spatial and temporal patterns in water quality. The models will evaluate hypotheses about key drivers of variation for three contrasting solute groups (geogenic, biogenic, anthropogenic) to further the foundational understanding of links between landscapes and river systems. Engagement with management agencies and global research partners will facilitate dissemination of findings and exchange of iterative approaches. Training opportunities for students in science communication will also be provided under this award.
