The National Science Foundation Division of Chemical, Bioengineering, Environmental, and Transport Systems awarded a $113,804 Project Grant to Florida Atlantic University under the Engineering (47.041) federal grant program. The grant funding supports research to develop optical and systems engineering methods for interrogating vascular amyloid in Alzheimer's disease. Specifically, the award will allow researchers at Florida Atlantic University to noninvasively image and characterize amyloid deposits in brain vasculature through minimally invasive optical techniques and systems engineering approaches. By advancing such methods, this project has the potential to improve understanding of vascular contributions to Alzheimer's pathology and progression. The work will be performed at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Florida from April 1, 2021 through May 31, 2022.
