The University of Alaska Anchorage was awarded a $126,977 project grant from the National Science Foundation Office of Integrative Activities to support the collaborative research project "Electric Vehicles in the Arctic (EVITA) - Interactions with Cold Weather, Microgrids, People, and Policy." The grant will fund research from January 1, 2022 to December 31, 2023 under the Geosciences program (CFDA 47.050) to strengthen understanding of the integrated Earth system through basic research in atmospheric, earth, and ocean sciences. Specifically, the University will examine the interactions of electric vehicles with cold weather conditions, microgrids, human users, and energy policy issues in Alaska's arctic climate through collaborative research and planning activities. The funding and 24-month period will allow investigation of challenges and opportunities for electric vehicle adoption in extreme northern environments and integration with isolated energy systems.
