The National Science Foundation Division of Civil, Mechanical, and Manufacturing Innovation awarded a $405,493 Project Grant to the University of Illinois to support research into the Mechanics of Fatigue in High to Medium Entropy Alloys from September 1, 2021 through August 31, 2024. Under the grant, the University of Illinois will conduct research to improve understanding of the fatigue behavior of multi-principal element alloys (MEAs), also known as high to medium entropy alloys. MEAs have promising properties but their fatigue performance limits broader application. Insights gained from this research aim to enable design and implementation of MEAs with enhanced fatigue life. The grant is funded through the NSF Directorate for Engineering's Engineering program (CFDA 47.041), which supports innovation in engineering research and education.
