The National Science Foundation awarded a $294,100 project grant to the University of Kansas Medical Center Research Institute, Inc. to support research titled "EAGER: ENGINEERING OPTICAL NANOBIOSENSORS FOR DETECTION OF CORONAVIRUS PROTEASES" under the NSF Engineering program (CFDA 47.041).
The grant funding will support the development of optical nanobiosensors for detecting coronavirus proteases from March 15, 2021 through October 31, 2022. The NSF Directorate for Engineering seeks to improve quality of life and economic strength through innovation and excellence in engineering research, such as this project to engineer novel sensors for rapid detection of coronavirus proteins. The University of Kansas Medical Center will leverage its expertise in biomedical engineering and nanotechnology to advance coronavirus diagnostic technologies.
