The University of Rochester received a $1.8 million Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation on September 1, 2021 to support the Center for Quantum Electrodynamics for Selective Transformations (QUEST). The three-year award, scheduled for completion on August 31, 2024, falls under the NSF's Mathematical and Physical Sciences program (CFDA 47.049).
Through this funding, the University will establish and operate QUEST, which will conduct research advancing the foundations of quantum electrodynamics and developing new methods for controlling light-matter interactions at the quantum level. In line with the goals of the NSF's Mathematical and Physical Sciences program to strengthen the nation's scientific enterprise through increased fundamental knowledge and understanding, QUEST researchers are expected to generate new scientific insights with potential long-term benefits for applications such as quantum technologies and advanced manufacturing.
