The National Science Foundation awarded a $167,704 Project Grant to the University of Maryland, College Park under the Computer and Information Science and Engineering federal grant program (CFDA 47.070). The grant supports collaborative research to develop an optimal desensitization protocol to facilitate a kidney paired donation system. The research aims to advance the use of desensitization therapy to expand compatible donor options for kidney transplant candidates. Over a four-year period from October 2021 through September 2025, the University of Maryland will conduct investigator-initiated research and develop protocols with the goal of enabling and accelerating matched kidney donations through innovative pairing and desensitization methods. As the parent organization, the University System of Maryland will oversee delivery of the research products and services.
