East Carolina University was awarded a $355,166 project grant from the National Science Foundation Division of Ocean Sciences under the Geosciences program (CFDA 47.050) for the period of October 1, 2021 through September 30, 2024. The grant will support the collaborative research project "North Atlantic Dynamics - Developing and Exploiting a Long-Term Cape Hatteras Gulf Stream Time Series" to strengthen understanding of the integrated Earth system through basic research in ocean sciences. Specifically, the funding will allow the grantee to conduct research using data from an ocean observing station located in Wanchese, North Carolina to develop a long-term time series of measurements characterizing Gulf Stream dynamics near Cape Hatteras and exploit the data to advance knowledge of ocean-atmosphere interactions and climate variability in the North Atlantic region.
