The Research Foundation of the City University of New York (RFCUNY) was awarded a $420,000 Project Grant from the National Science Foundation Division of Chemistry to study the influence of primary coordination sphere in aromatic C-C ring scission. This three-year grant, awarded September 1, 2021 and concluding August 31, 2024, will fund mechanistic studies of 3-his coordinated non-heme iron enzymes under the Mathematical and Physical Sciences program (CFDA #47.049). The goal of the program is to advance scientific knowledge and understanding of major problems through support of research projects and other activities in mathematical and physical sciences. RFCUNY will conduct research at its College of Staten Island campus to better understand the role of primary coordination in aromatic carbon-carbon bond cleavage by certain iron-containing enzymes, advancing knowledge relevant to the Mathematical and Physical Sciences program objectives.
