AN ESTIMATED 200 RSVP VOLUNTEERS WILL SERVE. OF THIS NUMBER 125 RSVP VOLUNTEERS WILL BE PLACED IN OUTCOME ASSIGNMENTS. SOME OF THEIR ACTIVITIES WILL INCLUDE: TUTORING - VOLUNTEERS WILL TUTOR STUDENTS WHO ARE STRUGGLING WITH THEIR LITERACY SKILLS IN KINDERGARTEN, FIRST, SECOND AND THIRD GRADES. SCHOOL READINESS -- VOLUNTEERS WILL WORK WEEKLY WITH STUDENTS IN VOLUNTARY PRE-KINDERGARTEN (VPK) TO IMPROVE THEIR LEVEL OF SCHOOL READINESS BEFORE THEY ENTER KINDERGARTEN. CAPACITY BUILDING -- RSVP VOLUNTEERS WILL HELP NON-PROFITS WITH VOLUNTEER RECRUITMENT FOR COMMUNITY, EDUCATIONAL, AND FUNDRAISING EVENTS, AS WELL AS PROVIDE RECRUITMENT FOR DIRECT SERVICE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES. DISASTER PREPAREDNESS -- RSVP VOLUNTEERS WILL SERVE ON THE DISASTER PREPAREDNESS TRAINING PLANNING COMMITTEE THAT ENSURES DISASTER PREPAREDNESS TRAININGS ARE AVAILABLE AND PROMOTED TO VOLUNTEERS IN OUR COMMUNITY. ADDITIONALLY, IF A DISASTER AFFECTS OUR COUNTY, RSVP VOLUNTEERS WILL WORK IN DISASTER-RELATED ROLES AND RECRUIT COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO SERVE IN NEEDED POSITIONS. OPIOID DRUG INTERVENTION ACCESS TO CARE-- RSVP VOLUNTEERS WILL ASSIST WITH CONDUCTING AN OPIOID DRUG PREVENTION EVENT DURING NATIONAL PREVENTION WEEK IN MAY OF EACH YEAR. THE PRIMARY FOCUS AREA OF THIS PROJECT IS EDUCATION. AT THE END OF THE THREE-YEAR GRANT, STUDENTS IN THE CNCS FUNDED PROGRAM WILL HAVE IMPROVED ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN LITERACY. STUDENTS IN THE VOLUNTARY PRE-KINDERGARTEN PROGRAM WILL BE MORE READY TO START KINDERGARTEN AND WILL DEMONSTRATE GAINS IN LITERACY SKILLS. COMMUNITY MEMBERS WILL BE TRAINED IN VARIOUS ACTIVITIES TO IMPROVE THEIR DISASTER PREPAREDNESS, RESPONSE AND RECOVERY ABILITIES. COMMUNITY MEMBERS WILL BE EDUCATED ABOUT OPIOID AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE ISSUES IN OUR COUNTY. THE CNCS FEDERAL INVESTMENT OF $51,260 WILL BE SUPPLEMENTED BY $26,014. FLAGLER VOLUNTEER SERVICES HAS BEEN THE PROUD SPONSOR OF RSVP IN FLAGLER COUNTY SINCE 2001 AND HAS BUILT POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS WITHIN OUR COMMUNITY TO ENSURE THAT WE WILL BE ABLE TO SUCCESSFULLY MEET OUR GOALS THROUGH THIS GRANT. PARTNERSHIPS INCLUDE FLAGLER COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT INCLUDING ALL ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS, FLAGLER COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT, FLAGLER COUNTY FIRE & RESCUE, UNITED WAY OF VOLUSIA/FLAGLER, EARLY LEARNING COALITION, AND MANY MORE.
