The National Science Foundation Division of Atmospheric and Geospace Sciences awarded Yale University a $323,795 project grant under the Geosciences program (CFDA 47.050) to conduct research quantifying global and regional impacts of the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation slowdown from 2021 to 2024. The grant supports collaborative research to strengthen understanding of the integrated Earth system through basic research in atmospheric, earth, and ocean sciences. Specifically, Yale University will work to expand fundamental knowledge of how the anticipated 21st century weakening of the AMOC may impact global and regional climates. Project outcomes will provide insight to help assess vulnerability and promote resilience to climatic changes potentially resulting from the AMOC slowdown.
