The University of Cincinnati was awarded a three-year, $520,884 Project Grant from the National Science Foundation Division of Earth Sciences to study the influence of hierarchical and multiscale river morphology and sediment heterogeneity on hyporheic exchange processes. The grant supports basic research in the atmospheric, earth, and ocean sciences through the NSF's Geosciences program (CFDA 47.050). Specifically, the University will investigate how physical characteristics of river beds and sediment composition impact the exchange of water between surface and subsurface environments. Findings from this research are expected to further understanding of integrated Earth system processes. The period of performance is from September 1, 2021 through August 31, 2024 at the University's location in Cincinnati, Ohio.
