The National Science Foundation Division of Civil, Mechanical, and Manufacturing Innovation awarded a $580,223 Project Grant to the University of California, Davis under the Engineering (47.041) federal grant program.
The grant will support research from July 2021 through June 2026 to actively learn second-life battery systems by combining reinforcement learning principles and device physics. The University of California, Davis will deliver research that seeks to improve battery technologies and inform the development of more sustainable and cost-effective energy storage solutions. Outcomes over the five-year period will further the National Science Foundation's goals of fostering innovation in engineering research areas critical to economic and societal needs.
