The University of Florida (UF) received a $1,237,330 Project Grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Specialty Crop Research Initiative (SCRI) program to determine if individual protective covers (IPCs) combined with oxytetracycline (OTC) injections can sustain newly planted citrus trees affected by Huanglongbing (HLB) disease until they become productive. The 3-year project will evaluate the optimal timing for removing IPCs and the efficacy of OTC injections in preventing HLB infection and transmissibility by the insect vector. The team will also conduct economic analyses to demonstrate the profitability of these management techniques for citrus growers in HLB-endemic regions. The project aims to develop a comprehensive, adoptable strategy for maintaining the productivity of HLB-infected citrus trees.
